Ten News - Gambling Ads - 13 August 2024

13/8/24

Currently there can't be gambling ads during live sport on television and if it's on before

8.30pm there's a 5 minute window pre and post game where they can't be run.

There's been speculation that the exclusion window would be extended and the number of ads

capped at other times too, instead of a total ban and that was all but confirmed last night.

Some of the free to air media need gambling ad revenue.

And that's why we're going to see some deep compromises on this that basically sell our children

to the gambling companies.

Kate Cheney was also on the Parliamentary Committee as a crossbench member she hasn't been

briefed on any proposals and even within Labor party room today it wasn't discussed.

The pressure is mounting here on the Albanese government and those pushing the calls are throwing

down the gauntlet making it a question of political courage.

And I think this is a really good example where the politics overrides the policy and people are sick of that.
