Making a Difference for Our Community - December 2024
With the end of the year in sight, I’m feeling deeply grateful for my tireless team, our many generous volunteers and our very engaged Curtin community, who have helped us do politics differently this year. With so much division and apathy across the world, it’s inspiring and hopeful to be part of a community that cares.
Here’s a small snapshot of what we’ve achieved for our local community:
✅ Helped 1000 individuals with Federal government issues and responded to 4500 policy-related emails
✅ Assisted community groups to access more than $750,000 in Federal grants
✅ Knocked on thousands of doors and asked people what matters to them to inform my policy
✅ Advocated directly to Ministers over 110 times on behalf of my community
✅ Given 83 speeches in Parliament on issues like electoral reform, Industrial Relations, vaping & gambling, intergenerational equity, climate and refugees
✅ Reviewed and voted on 148 pieces of legislation
✅ Facilitated 7 Curtin Submissions, including on housing, online safety and transport
✅ Created the Curtin Pathway to Net Zero Report with a team of 50 volunteers
✅ Created the Curtin Seniors Guide to help older people and their families navigate Federal government services
✅ Visited 23 primary & secondary schools and held 8 Youth Advisory Group meetings with Year 11s from every secondary school in Curtin
Community Events Held
✅ Curtin Sustainability Fair attended by 2000 people with 50 stallholders
✅ 21 Community Catchups/Canberra Debriefs to keep voters informed and hear their concerns
✅ 16 policy events on issues like aged care, net zero, EPBC, cost of living, electoral reform, good infill, plastics pollution, home electrification, native verges, democracy, youth mental health, menopause, refugees and sustainability
