Protecting our natural places (20 July 2024)

A first-time local initiative in Shenton Park invites community members to meet parliamentarians and scientists to discuss the ways in which WA's natural places can be protected.

The Shenton Park Nature Forum on Saturday August 3 will discuss how the community can conserve and protect the state's biodiversity-rich natural places.

A panel of policymakers and health and environment experts will lead the discussion from 2pm in the Shenton Park Community Hall, 240 Onslow Road. It is part a series of events presented by the Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) Perth community group and the Conservation Council of WA, to bring people together with policymakers and health and environmental experts.

"If we really care about nature this is the time to safeguard it for all future generations," said one of the forum's organisers, artist and biodiversity educator Angela Rossen.

"We see this as an opportunity for members of the general public to come together and share their concerns, ask questions, have conversations and become part of the solutions of environmental ownership and stewardship."

The nature forum's panel will comprise Dr George Crisp from Doctors for the Environment, black cockatoo nature advocate Paddy Cullen and politicians Kate Chaney (Curtin MHR) and Katrina Stratton (Nedlands MLA).

Everyone is welcome at this free event, and there will be nature activities for kids and a delicious home cooked afternoon tea. Book at https://nature-forum-3-Aug-24.eventbrite.com.au.
